At the end of World War II, while the Netherlands is still occupied, a group of resistance fighters kills a policeman, and the corpse for a mysterious reason ends up in front of the Steinwijk family's house, the Germans burn the house and only twelve-year-old Anton survives. Years later, Anton becomes a doctor who lives a quiet life and deliberately forgets, but life's coincidences and crises will give him separate threads that allow him to complete the picture of the event and realize the absurdity of fates.
