Description Doxycycline belongs to the group of tetracyclines; it is a bactericide which acts against many Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria such as Bordetella, Campylobacter, E. coli, Haemophilus, Pasteurella, Salmonella, Staphylococcus and Streptococcus spp. Doxycycline also acts against Chlamydia, Mycoplasma and Rickettsia spp. Doxycycline acts by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Doxycycline has a good affinity for the lungs and is therefore particularly recommended for the treatment of bacterial respiratory infections. Gentamicin sulfate belongs to the group of aminoglycosides and has a bactericidal action against Gram-negative bacteria such as E. coli, Klebsiella, Pasteurella and Salmonella spp. The bactericidal action is also based on the inhibition of the protein synthesis of the bacteria. Administered orally, gentamicin is poorly absorbed, therefore it acts mainly in the gastrointestinal system. Indications Gastrointestinal and respiratory infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to doxycycline and/or gentamicin such as Bordetella, Campylobacter, Chlamydia, E. coli, Klebsiella, Haemophilus, Mycoplasma, Pasteurella, Rickettsia, Salmonella, Staphylococcus and Streptococcus spp. in calves, goats, poultry, sheep and pigs.
