I found myself not writing a patient's diary; rather, I write events and feelings, what I experienced and what I learned, an autobiography for me and my generation as well. Without realizing it, my book crossed from the private to the public, and thus I moved between scientific explanation to news of political developments, and from refuting myths about what is called "alternative medicine" to following the death of Queen Elizabeth, contemplating death and life. If I am saved by some miracle, I will seek that light that increased my experience and appreciation of it during the days of my illness and I will give what I can in gratitude for being fortunate to have a luminous wife, a luminous father and mother and many friends whose light reassures me of the truth of goodness in this world. If fate grants me the time that the doctors have estimated, I hope that what comes after my death will be light and calm and that some light will pass through this book to whoever reads "Mohamed Aboul Gheit"
