Lipitor (atorvastatin) 20mg is a prescription medication manufactured by Pfizer used to lower cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood. Each pack contains 30 film-coated tablets, with each tablet containing 20mg of the active ingredient atorvastatin calcium. Lipitor belongs to a group of drugs called HMG CoA reductase inhibitors, or 'statins'. It works by reducing the amount of cholesterol made by the liver. This medication is used along with a proper diet to help lower bad cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, triglycerides) and raise good cholesterol (HDL) in the blood. It helps prevent heart attacks and strokes in patients with heart disease or at risk of developing heart disease.
